Soup’s On!
About the Program
Community Kitchen Pittsburgh (CKP) is excited to announce the launch of Soup’s On!, a new pay-what-you-can/pay-it-forward food truck initiative bringing fresh, scratch-made soup and homemade bread to the Hazelwood community beginning November 2, 2026.
The food truck will initially operate on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 11am to 3pm in the Community Kitchen Pittsburgh parking lot at 107 Flowers Avenue, Hazelwood, offering a convenient, walk-up lunch option for neighbors and visitors alike.
Meals will have a suggested contribution of $7, but everyone is welcome to enjoy a meal, regardless of their ability to pay. Those who can contribute are invited to pay for their own lunch or pay it forward by helping provide a meal for someone else.
The idea behind Soup’s On! is simple: good food brings people together, and everyone deserves a good meal.
Through this community-supported model, Soup’s On! invites neighbors to connect through food and look out for one another. Whether someone stops by for a quick lunch, contributes a little extra, or simply enjoys a bowl of soup, everyone is part of making the initiative a success.
“We've been part of the Hazelwood community for years, and Soup’s On! is one more way we can bring people together through food,” said Jennifer Flanagan, Executive Director of Community Kitchen Pittsburgh. “We want this to be a place where anyone can stop by for a delicious homemade lunch, whether they can pay for it or not. And for those who can give a little extra, it's an opportunity to treat a neighbor to lunch. We're starting with two days a week, but our hope is to offer this every weekday as we secure additional support. It's really about neighbors taking care of neighbors.”
Soup’s On! also builds on CKP’s mission of using food to create opportunity. The homemade bread will be prepared by participants in CKP’s culinary apprenticeship program, and the truck will provide hands-on work experience for individuals in CKP’s transitional employment program. Every bowl served helps support both the community and the people building new careers through CKP.
CKP welcomes support from local businesses, organizations, and individuals who want to help Soup’s On! grow. Sponsorships and contributions will help sustain the initiative and expand the number of days fresh, homemade meals are available to the community.
